Sabudana Khichdi

Sabudana is white pearl that comes from the roots of tapioca. It has high amount of carbohydrates and that is why it keeps energy level high for a long time. It is usually consumed on fasting days as other grains are prohibited during fasting. It should not be consumed daily as body requires different vitamins and minerals on regular basis.

It is easily available in any convenient store and can stored for a long time. It should always be soaked for at least 2 hours before cooking. It has a tendency to rise after soaking and that is when it is ready to cook. Many variety of dishes can be made from sabudana. Sweet dishes like sabudana kheer can also be made from it. 

Today I will share sabudana khichdi recipe with you. It is sweet spicy and tangy in taste so it can even be enjoyed when not fasting. You can add many ingredients into this simple recipe. Let us look at the ingredients and recipe details.

Preparation Time: 10-15 mins
Cooking time: 15-20 mins

Ingredients: 
  • Sabudana - 1/2 cup (soaked for 2 hours)
  • Oil - 1 1/2 tablespoon
  • Peanuts - 1/4 cup
  • Jeera - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Green chilies - 1 piece
  • Ginger - 1/4 inch (grated)
  • Potatoes - 3/4 cup
  • Saunf - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Black salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Powered sugar - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Coriander leaves - handful
  • Potato chevda - 1 cup


Method:
  1. Soak sabudana for 2 hours in little water.
  2. After 2 hours strain it and squeeze it little and keep it aside.
  3. In a pan, add oil and let it heat.
  4. Add peanuts and roast it well.
  5. Then add jeera, green chilies and grated ginger.
  6. Saute it for few seconds and then add potatoes.
  7. Mix it well.
  8. Now add all the other spices.
  9. Then add sabudana and mix everything.
  10. Gently mix sabudana and then switch off the flame.
  11. Now add lemon juice and mix again.
  12. Garnish it will chopped coriander leaves.
  13. At the end add crispy potato flakes and mix everything.
  14. It will give crunch to the khichdi.
  15. While serving it, add some more potato flakes on top and enjoy.
