Dalia Chilla | Dalia Cheela




Dalia, also known as (gehu fada) or broken wheat. It is well-known for its fiber and protein content. It is unpolished grain so it provides natural nutrients to the body. It is available in flour factories and even in convenient stores or grocery stores usually in packaged form. It is fine to use from anywhere.  It has a good shelf life that can last up to couple of months. 

It is called wonder food as it has many benefits to human body. It helps in growth of a child, beneficial to diabetic patient as it is light and easy to digest. It can be consumed in breakfast lunch or dinner depending on the way it is cooked. As it is high in fiber content, it cleans choked intestine, making it easy to clean stomach. Thus, it promotes weight loss very easily and speedily. It is usually used to make khichdi out of it as it is easily cooked. So if you want flat tummy, then dalia should be your staple food. 

Though being a healthy food, it is disliked by many people especially kids because of the monotonous way of cooking it. So, I have come up with different way to cook dalia. You can always experiment with your cooking skills. It can be made as chilla or puda or pudla, also known as pancake. Infact, you can make veg idli, handva, appe from dalia. Today, i will share with you my style of making dalia chilla.


Preparation Time: 15 mins
Cooking time: 20 mins

Ingredients:
  • Dalia - 1 cup
  • Curd - 1/4th cup
  • Water - 1 1/4 cup
  • Onion - 1 medium (chopped)
  • Tomato - 1 medium (chopped)
  • Green chillies - 2 chopped
  • Ginger garlic paste - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt to taste
  • Red chilli powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper powder - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - a pinch
  •  Coriander - 1/2 cup (chopped)


Dalia Chila

Method:
  1. Roast dalia in a pan on low-medium flame until it turns aromatic. It takes around 5 minutes to roast.
  2. Let the roasted dalia cool down completely and grind it to make fine powder.
  3. Transfer dalia powder in a bowl, add curd, water and let it rest for an hour. It should be of consistency same like dosa batter.
  4. Add ginger garlic paste, salt, red chilli powder, cumin powder, black pepper powder, garam masala.
  5. Add chopped onions, tomatoes, green chillies and chopped coriander. Mix it well.
  6. On a tawa, apply a little cooking oil and spread dalia batter in a circular motion. 
  7. Cook on medium-high flame and flip sides until crispy.
  8. Serve hot dalia chillas with ketchup or pudina chutney.
